At NeuroVista, I’m researching the cognitive and neurological effects of Carnatic music (South Indian classical music), known for its complex melodies and rhythms. My work looks at how different ragas affect brain areas involved in memory, emotion, and pattern recognition, and how listening to them might help with emotional regulation, disease prevention, and focus. I’m also exploring how some people experience synesthesia, and how the color patterns they see might be linked to the mathematical patterns in the arohana–avarohana scales of each raga.
